Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya has urged youths in Teso North to embrace internationally recognized programs that can enhance their employability, prepare them for the global market, and strengthen their competitiveness.
Speaking during the three-day youth skills recognition conference held from January 29 to 31 at Chamasiri Technical and Vocational College (TVC), CS Oparanya, accompanied by senior government officials, including Principal Secretary for MSME Development Ms. Susan Mangeni; Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development Mr. Shadrack Mwadime; and Dr. Philemon Kiprono, Director of the Public Service Commission underscored the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and skills development.

He noted that certified skills can significantly enhance career prospects, entrepreneurial potential, and global competitiveness.TESO North MP Hon. Oku Kaunya said he had facilitated the partnership between Chamasiri TVC and Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) to enable youths to benefit from the RPL program and internationally accredited courses offered through the Signet Institute of Australia.
He noted that many young people in the region have acquired valuable skills outside formal classrooms, and the collaboration provides a pathway to formally recognize these abilities, unlocking both local and global opportunities.
TENP Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech, on his part, highlighted the programs during the conference, noting that TENP has earned national recognition as one of the country’s leading TVET institutions.
He explained that, as a satellite campus of the Signet Institute, the college offers qualifications recognized in 36 countries, giving youths access to international career and business opportunities.
Dr. Koech added that the initiative not only validates existing skills but also equips young people to compete confidently in a global marketplace.
Chamasiri TVC, through its Principal Lawrence Ongati, in his remarks, praised the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with TENP, describing it as a milestone for youth empowerment in Teso North.
He noted that the partnership will provide a structured pathway to formally recognize skills and access globally accredited qualifications, enhancing employability in the job market .
